A Complete Unknown: Bob Dylan Window Display

Our latest window display was a labour of love in many ways. Partly inspired by the ‘Complete Unknown’ Dylan film we tried to recreate the Gaslight Cafe from the early 60s Greenwich Village, complete with steel, a guitar, & a mouth organ just in case his royal bobness drops by and fancies a turn!
Record Store Day!

A big thank you to everyone who made it down to the shop yesterday.
We had a great time and I think it was one of our busiest RSD days ever! Nice to see some regular faces and meet some new ones.
Hope everyone came away with something they wanted. Sorry if we’d sold out of the particular title you were looking for, but we never get allocated enough of the ‘hot’ titles, but I suppose that’s what makes it exciting. The thrill of the chase as it were. A big shout out to the young couple who started queueing at 5.30pm on Friday! You’ve got the record!
Also, thanks very much to The Picturehouse,(officially the coolest cinema around in my book) for screening Hi Fidelity to celebrate RSD. It was a perfect end to a perfect day.#Greenwich picture house.

Live shows : Richard Thompson
When folk rock legend Richard Thompson comes to town, you have to sit up and take notice, When he’s playing just a 2 minute walk away from casbah HQ its a no brainer! The Cutty Sark was the venue for this rare treat, a large cavernous space, set underneath the hull of England’s famous tea clipper.
Thompson has such a wealth of material to choose from in his 60 odd year career, that he has a job on his hands to play every fan’s favourite, but to my mind he played the perfect combination of new tracks and the classics. There were several songs from his last album ship to shore, which given the setting had a pleasing resonance, plus classics from his 90’s period such as ‘Bee’s Wing’ and ‘Vincent Black Lightning’; and then to the audience’s delight he brought on singer Zara Philips to take the role of Linda Thompson, with a selection of crowd pleasers such as ‘Wall of Death’, ‘Withered and Died’, ‘Hokey Pokey’, and then to top it all off ‘I Want To See The Bright Lights’ for an encore. All this along with Thompson’s trademark banter between songs, made this the most satisfying and heartwarming evening!
